Florin Crash Allegedly Linked to Drunk Driving

An alleged DUI accident on December 27 in the Florin area of Sacramento involving two vehicles caused the death of one woman and her dog. The accident happened around 12:10 a.m. in the area of Parkway Estates along Orange Avenue near Stockton Boulevard, according to the South Sacramento California Highway Patrol (CHP). Officers reported that a woman from Sacramento, age 63, was a passenger in a Mercedes, carrying her dog in her lap, when she was fatally injured and died at the accident scene, along with her pet. The identity of the deceased woman has not been released yet pending notification of family members.

Details of the Accident

The accident happened as the Mercedes station wagon the woman was riding in was exiting a residential driveway and heading east on Orange Avenue. This was when it was struck broadside by a Chevy Silverado 3500 that was reported as speeding. The Mercedes driver, age 60, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as minor.

Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested Following Crash

The suspected DUI driver of the Chevy pickup was identified as a 49-year-old man and a resident of Sacramento. Officers with the CHP at the accident scene determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.  The man was placed under arrest following the DUI accident and taken to Sacramento County jail and booked. Jail records show that bail was set at $50,000. He may be facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and DUI resulting in death or major injury. A news release by the CHP concluded that fatal collisions caused by drunk driving are entirely preventable.

Loss of a Loved One

It is always difficult to lose a loved one, but even more so when the death was sudden and unexpected. Remaining family members feel grief, shock, and loneliness. Seeking justice for the loss of a family member through placing a wrongful death claim can help with feelings of anger. Family members and friends can be of enormous help following a loved one’s loss. Some of the ways in which they can help include:

  • Let them talk and listen to what the person has to say. Just be sympathetic.
  • Offer practical help such as running errands or taking children to school.
  • Offer to accompany the bereaved person in charge to make the funeral plans. This can be one of the most difficult times for them.
  • Understand that everyone is different and grieves in their own way.
  • Offer to grocery shop or bring over prepared meals. Someone who is grieving heavily may forget to eat or need encouragement to do so.
  • Accompany them on some outings. This can be especially important if the person is now alone after losing a spouse.
  • Remember that grief doesn’t stop with the funeral service. Be there for your friend or family member afterward.

Seeking Advice Following an Accident Injury

Those who suffer an injury or loss of a loved one caused by negligence can place a claim for financial damages. An experienced injury lawyer can help. We send out our investigators to the accident site to gather evidence to support your claim. It begins by checking the police report for inaccuracies and talking to witnesses. Accident reconstruction is commonly performed, which shows the placement of the vehicles and how the accident occurred. When a DUI accident happens, a conviction provides strong proof of negligence. Traffic cameras or those from nearby businesses add to that proof. When all the evidence has been gathered together, it is given to our lawyers to build a strong case for compensation. This can be used when dealing on your behalf with the insurance company or to present in civil court.
