Details on the Crash on Cypress Road in Oakley That Left Eight Injured

Things to Know About Multi-Vehicle Accidents and Personal Injury Claims

Driving in California may be dangerous as potentially negligent drivers may cause motor vehicle collisions. Conversely, California has been found to have a percentage rate of 16.6 for uninsured drivers throughout the state in a 2019 report by the Insurance Information Institute (III). With this information in mind, it is essential to carry uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM and UIM) coverage to protect you and your loved ones in the event of a traffic collision resulting in injuries and damages.

The state requires a minimum of $15,000 per person and $30,000 per crash in bodily injury liability coverage. When you have at least $100,000 and $300,000 in UM and UIM coverage, you will have peace of mind knowing that you will have this protection available to you and your passengers through your own insurer. Why it is recommended to carry UM and UIM coverage limits that exceed the state minimum auto insurance requirements is that some crashes may involve several vehicles and parties. When liability is pinpointed on one individual, and they only carry state minimum limits, this may put all parties in a financial predicament, particularly when traumatic injuries or death are involved. That is because the policy limits must be allocated among all claimants.

Do yourself and your loved ones the favor of carrying UM and UIM coverage limits you can afford. The additional dollars paid toward the insurance premium may make all the difference in the event of a motor vehicle collision, and hopefully, that day never comes. However, when it does come, you know that you and your family will be protected. Understanding how UM and UIM coverage may come into play in a personal injury case may be challenging. Fortunately, an experienced accident attorney may simplify the process for you. Working with the best personal injury lawyer in Oakley is essential to receiving the guidance and protection you need after a car accident.
