Hit-and-Run Driver Flees From Scene of Pedestrian Fatality

A pedestrian fatality accident recently occurred in Rancho Cordova after a woman was struck by a fleeing driver. The crash happened on southbound Sunrise Boulevard at the on-ramp that leads to Highway 50 westbound at around 2:00 a.m. Officers with the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded to the call and located the abandoned vehicle at the crosswalk where the woman was walking. She had suffered serious trauma from the collision and was pronounced dead at the accident scene by medics with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Hit-and-Run Drivers

No one said it was easy to locate a hit-and-run driver. However, we feel it is our duty to work hard finding the person who committed an egregious act of negligence such as fleeing the scene of a pedestrian fatality accident. When someone dies in this way, the grieving family is left behind and confused and angry because the person who caused the death refuses to take responsibility.

Over the years, we have successfully located a number of hit-and-run drivers. We do this by performing a thorough investigation to collect the evidence needed to find them. When the driver is found, they can be held responsible through their insurance company or by taking them to court when the family files a wrongful death claim against them. By filing such a claim, the family can recover:

  • Wages the deceased would have earned until retirement age, along with pension, insurance benefits and others
  • The cost of the funeral and burial expenses
  • The surviving spouse can recover compensation for loss of consortium, love and affection
  • Children can recover damages for the loss of nurturing and guidance
  • Loss of household services is recoverable such as cooking, lawn care, etc.

Insurance Coverage Can Help

If the fleeing driver isn’t found, the loss can be covered by an uninsured/underinsured policy. These auto insurance add-ons cover someone if they are driving, on a motorcycle or bicycle or are walking when the accident occurs. Using this insurance policy does not affect the rates in the future.
