Driver Injured in St. Helena Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a St. Helena personal injury lawyer. On Saturday, November 4, 2017, a collision occurred just south of St. Helena that left one driver with major injuries.

What Happened?

According to reports from the Napa area California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred at around 7:50 a.m. on Highway 29 close to the junction of Zinfandel Lane. CHP indicated that Jiza Obana, a 36-year-old resident of Vallejo, had been driving a 2008 Toyota Camry northbound while Avdiel Martinez, a 27-year-old Napa resident, had been turning to enter the southbound lane. As Martinez entered the southbound lane, her vehicle reportedly collided with the oncoming truck.

Injury Information

CHP reportedly received a phone call indicating that one or more individuals were possibly injured in the accident and immediately dispatched emergency personnel to respond to the crash. Responders arrived at the scene of the incident and discovered that Obana had sustained traumatic injuries. Obana was immediately taken to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. On the morning of Monday, November 6, 2017, the hospital reported that Obana was in good condition.

Authorities reported that Martinez did not suffer any injuries as a result of the collision.

Investigation

CHP is currently investigating the collision. It typically takes up to 10 days for a report to be issued pertaining to cause. Factors that may have contributed to this crash include dangerous situations such as distracted driving, defective roadways, driving under the influence, and more.

Recent St. Helena Collisions

A few other notable accidents have happened recently near St. Helena. One such accident occurred on Friday, June 2, 2017, on Highway 29 close to the intersection of Highway 128. Reports indicated that a Napa woman was rescued from the burning wreckage of her vehicle by a good samaritan tow truck driver and off-duty volunteer fireman.

The woman reportedly received major leg injuries during the initial collision but was rescued from the vehicle before she received any burn injuries.

Another Accident

Another recent area collision occurred on August 30, 2017, when a 66-year-old Calistoga resident was involved in a fatal crash on Highway 29. Authorities reported that the collision happened at around 1:45 p.m. close to the intersection of Bale Lane.

A man had been driving south in a 2005 Chevrolet when a Volkswagen turned into the southbound lane in order to exit the highway. When the Volkswagen turned into the southbound lane, it put itself in the path of the Chevrolet and was T-boned.

The driver of the Volkswagen received fatal injuries while the Chevrolet driver received major cuts on his arms.
