Driver Hits Divider in Solo-Vehicle Crash on El Dorado Freeway

A solo-vehicle crash in Cameron Park caused a major injury on June 19. The collision happened along eastbound U.S. 50 just east of the Cambridge Road on-ramp around 10:34 a.m. The reporting person who saw the accident as it happened called the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and reported it from the west side of the El Dorado Freeway.

One Person Transported to Hospital With Major Injury After Solo-Vehicle Crash

The pickup truck collision left debris strewn on the westbound side and the vehicle facing the wrong way in the center divider. The CHP traffic officers reported a major injury in the crash, and that person was taken to a hospital for care and treatment. A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the pickup and warned to keep an eye out for a cat or cat carrier with an animal inside the vehicle.

Causes of a Solo-Vehicle Crash Outside of Driver Negligence

There are a number of ways in which a single-vehicle crash can occur that have nothing to do with driver negligence. When this happens, the injured motorist might be able to file a claim for personal injury damages from the at-fault party. Some of the ways these collisions occur include the following:

  • Mechanical failure: In some cases, a single-vehicle crash occurs due to a malfunction in the vehicle itself. Common mechanical issues that can lead to crashes include worn tires, brake failure, transmission problems and steering system failure. Following a solo-vehicle crash, retaining the vehicle is important to examine it for defects. If a defect is found that led to the accident, a claim for product liability may be filed against the maker of the part, the manufacturer and others.
  • Roadway Conditions: Environmental factors such as poor road conditions or debris on the roadway may also cause single-vehicle crashes. Common lacks of maintenance include potholes, upheavals or fissures in the roadway, poor lighting and misplaced or missing signage. In addition, poor design, such as curves that are too tight can cause an accident. Although the government entity in charge of roadway maintenance and design may be liable for accident injuries, the deadline to file is only six months. Having an accident lawyer handle your case can ensure paperwork is completed and filed within the time limit.
  • Animals in the roadway: Animals crossing roads can be major causes of solo vehicle accidents when drivers are unable to stop in time or lose control of their vehicle. When the animal happens to be someone’s livestock that has escaped its enclosure, a claim may be placed against the owner.
