Driver Crashes in Fatal Accident on Truxel Road Off-Ramp

A fatal accident occurred in Sacramento on June 21 when the driver of a Chevy pickup exited the roadway and struck a wall. The collision was reported just after 8:00 a.m. on the Truxel Road off-ramp off westbound I-80. Sacramento Fire Department first responders were called to the scene as well as officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP)

Witness Calls CHP to Report Fatal Accident

According to a witness to the accident, the white Chevy pickup passed through a chain-link fence and crashed into a wall. The vehicle was found about 100 feet off the roadway. The Sacramento County Coroner arrived at the accident site and declared the driver dead. Officials have recently identified the decedent as Roseville resident, Anthony Vincent Guardino, age 64.

Investigation Being Held to Determine Accident Cause

Family members must be notified before the name of the decedent can be released. The CHP traffic accident unit is investigating to determine why the driver crashed.

Negligent Actions That Can Lead to a Fatal Accident

Motorists must drive responsibly to avoid accidents with others that can cause serious injuries and fatalities. Unfortunately, too many drivers are negligent, which can have tragic consequences. Some of the types of negligence they exhibit include:

  • Tailgating can lead to a rear-end crash.
  • Driving intoxicated or under the influence of drugs makes a motorist unable to safely handle a vehicle on the road.
  • Distracted driving, such as texting, removes the driver’s focus from the road and those few seconds are enough to lead to a serious collision.
  • Speeding is always a danger to the driver and others because stopping time is reduced and the motorist’s ability to react quickly is lengthened.
  • Fatigued driving is comparable to intoxication in its effects on the motorist, which can cause a fatal accident if the driver drifts out of the lane.

Wrongful Death Claims

Filing a wrongful death claim may not be considered immediately by grieving family members. However, by filing a claim, they can not only recover compensation that keeps them from suffering financial harm but can obtain justice for their deceased loved one. The surviving spouse and children of the deceased person can file for wrongful death if negligence by another person or entity was the cause. Either the family or the estate administrator may file a claim.

Compensation that may be recovered by filing a wrongful death claim includes:

  • The cost of the funeral and burial or cremation
  • Wages the decedent would have earned had they lived until retirement age, including bonuses, pension benefits, and insurance
  • The family’s children can claim compensation for the loss of their parent’s love, guidance, and affection
  • The spouse may claim loss of consortium, emotional support and care
  • Lost household services can be claimed, which includes areas where the deceased spouse regularly worked around the home
