Crash Near Woodland Causes Fatal Injuries

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, one person suffered fatal trauma as the result of a car crash near Woodland. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Department is currently withholding the identity of the decedent while their family is being notified. In addition to the decedent, three other individuals sustained major injuries and were hospitalized following the collision. The cause of this accident is under active California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation.

Collision Information

The crash reportedly happened on County Road 98 to the south of County Road 30 close to the small community of Plainfield. An 18-year-old resident of Dixon was driving a 2004 Toyota southbound in a rural area of Yolo County. For reasons that investigators currently don’t understand, the Toyota traveled over the roadway median and into the northbound lane before crashing head-on into a 1999 Ford. Both vehicles sustained major damages.

Response

The incident was promptly reported to CHP, and dispatchers rushed emergency responders to the location. When they arrived, medical personnel discovered that all three individuals who were involved in the crash had suffered severe trauma. The passenger of the Ford and driver of the Toyota were transported to the Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville and the UC Davis Medical Center, respectively and remained in hospital custody at the time of reporting.

The driver of the Ford was also hospitalized. However, the individual tragically passed away while in the custody of the hospital.

Investigation

As Woodland-Area CHP continues to look into this accident, officers have asked for public assistance with investigations. Anyone who has information about the accident is urged to contact CHP by calling (530) 662-4685. Police noted that any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

So far, police haven’t indicated if there are any suspected causal factors in regards to this incident. Furthermore, double-vehicle collisions can be complicated and, in many cases, are caused by multiple factors, many of which aren’t controlled by either driver. Non-driver car accident causes can include defective auto parts, dangerous roads, and more.

Private Investigations are Critical

During accident investigations, police sometimes overlook important evidence that could be critical to a wrongful death claim. This is even more likely to happen if officers can’t interview decedents about what occurred.

To prevent overlooked evidence, it’s critical to have an experienced Woodland wrongful death lawyer on your side. An expert attorney will be able to perform a private accident investigation that prioritizes your family.
