Two Drivers Flee Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Fruitridge Road

A double hit-and-run occurred in a multiple vehicle accident in South Sacramento on December 29, which injured a person who remained at the scene. The accident happened around 5:28 in the afternoon along eastbound Fruitridge Road just east of Mendocino Boulevard in the Oak Park area. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as well as the Sacramento Police Department were called to the scene.

Accident Under Investigation Following Injury

Sacramento Fire Department first responders arrived to assess injuries. Whether the injured person was treated at the scene and released or taken to a hospital for additional evaluation was not stated. Three vehicles at the accident scene had to be towed away. The collision was reported as a two-vehicle felony hit-and-run. Police are investigating to determine how the crash occurred and to locate the fleeing drivers.

Negligence by Hit-and-Run Drivers

Although there are many reasons a driver is involved in an accident and flees the scene, few face repercussions worse than being charged with a felony. Some drivers who have an expired license or no registration may have a pile of unpaid tickets, or worse. However, many fleeing drivers are caught and end up being charged with felony hit-and-run if injuries or fatalities occurred as a result of their behavior.

Efforts to Locate a Fleeing Driver

Police make a supreme effort to locate hit-and-run drivers because allowing this type of negligence to pass is unfair to the individual they injured and may encourage others to do the same. Our law office has an excellent record when it comes to locating hit-and-run drivers and may be able to help you too.

If the driver cannot be located, our injury attorneys can help find other ways to pay for your medical expenses and other losses. These days especially, it is difficult for anyone to come up with extra funds to pay for hospitalization and other sudden costs, and this is one worry we try to take off your shoulders.

Investigating a Hit-and-Run Accident

We send out our investigators to the accident scene right away to gather the evidence needed to support a client’s claim for compensation. Among the areas where evidence is gathered are:

  • The investigators look for clues as to the identity of the fleeing driver. This can consist of paint smears, tire marks, and broken pieces of the vehicle. This evidence can identify what make and model of vehicle the driver was in.
  • They interview the witnesses to find out what they saw. In some cases, a witness videotaped the driver or can describe the vehicle and person behind the wheel.
  • Intersection and roadway traffic cameras are checked to see if they captured the vehicle driven by the fleeing driver on tape. These videos can also show who was at fault for the accident.
  • Police reports are checked for inaccuracies.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which demonstrates how the crash occurred.

Our injury attorneys take over once all the evidence is gathered to construct a strong case that supports our client’s claim.

Using Insurance to Pay for Hit-and-Run Accident Injuries

Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is offered as an add-on to all drivers in California. We can help an injured motorist use this insurance, if they carry it, to pay for their accident injuries. It also covers them if they are injured by someone’s negligence when walking or riding a bicycle or motorcycle.

If the injured person does not carry this add-on policy and another member of the household does, their insurance coverage can be used instead. It does not affect the rate of the policy and can provide financial relief for the cost of their accident injuries.
