Double Fatality Crash Near Elk Grove

Drag Racing a Factor?

According to CHP, drag racing near Elk Grove may have been a contributing factor in the double fatality that occurred on Friday, August 14, 2015.

A Dodge Challenger Truck driven by a 18-year-old may have been drag racing down Bradshaw Road and Vintage Park Drive near Elk Grove Friday night. The man’s 15-year-old brother was also riding in the speeding truck.

CHP says that the 18-year-old was driving his truck approximately 100 mph when it struck another truck being driven by newlyweds Molly Xiong, 26, formerly of Merced and Sai Vang, 31. The impact was so severe that it pushed the newlywed’s vehicle approximately 225 feet into an SMUD power pole and then burst into flames. The couple, ejected from their vehicle were killed instantly in the fiery crash.

The 18 and 15-year-old were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to CHP officer Mike Bradley. “We’ve known that this area is an area that there’s high speeds, and young drivers out there involved in street racing,” Bradley said “We just can’t rule it out at this point.”

Loved Ones Struggling to Cope with Loss

Molly Xiong’s sister, Pajtsais Lee, describes her sister as the glue that held their family together — the role-model sister that everyone loved the most. Molly loved to cook and enjoyed Hmong music.

Molly Xiong and her husband Sai Vang, married less than two years were just beginning to make a life together. Family members are trying to come to terms with this tragic, untimely and senseless double fatality.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of this double fatality crash near Elk Grove. The 18-year-old driver may face charges in connection with the wrongful death of Molly and her husband, Sai.
