Fatal Humboldt Head-On Crash

Local authorities reported that a Humboldt head-on accident left one person with deadly injuries on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. The decedent’s identity is currently being withheld by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office until his next-of-kin is notified about the tragic accident. According to police, the crash took place during heavy rainfall and left two other people with serious injuries.

Crash Details

According to police, the accident happened at about 12:50 p.m. on Highway 101 to the south of Salmon Creek Road near Garberville. Two men had been driving southbound in an SUV when, for reasons that investigators do not currently understand, the driver lost control of his vehicle and veered left, entering oncoming traffic. A 45-year-old woman from Healdsburg in Napa County was driving a Ford Excursion northbound on 101 when the SUV entered her path. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing both to come to a rest on the northbound side of the highway.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) responders arrived at the accident site and found that that the SUV driver suffered critical injuries during the collision. Tragically, the man was declared deceased on-site. The SUV passenger and the Healdsburg woman were both found with major injuries. Medical responders had the injured parties transported to the St. Joseph Hospital and the Jerold Phelps Hospital, respectively.

Investigation

The highway remained closed to traffic for around two hours while investigators searched the scene for evidence that might help them understand what caused the crash. As officers continue to investigate this accident, it remains unclear what factors were involved.

When a driver involved in a car accident passes away, so does their version of events. This means that police often aren’t able to get a clear picture regarding the events that lead up to the fatal crash. To make sure that the accident is investigated thoroughly, it’s important to call a local auto accident lawyer who can investigate the collision privately. An attorney with experience handling serious accident cases will know how to determine whether or not any negligence may have caused the crash.

Recovering Compensation

Grieving families are often faced with a very difficult situation. Not only is losing a person you love very painful, but it can also have major financial consequences for you and your family. While it isn’t possible to replace somebody you love, families can pursue wrongful death claims in order to obtain payments for both personal and economic losses. By filing a claim, families can obtain the money they need to cover for lost income, pay medical bills, afford funeral expenses, and more.

While it is important to reach out to a wrongful death lawyer, many people think of finding a trustworthy attorney as a stressful experience. This is totally understandable, especially because wrongful death cases are both sensitive and legally complicated. Thankfully, it’s actually easy to find a good attorney if you know how to look.
