Davis Hit-and-Run Crash Causes Fatal Trauma

One person lost his life on Sunday, January 3, 2021, after being involved in a Davis hit-and-run crash. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office has since identified the decedent as Ernest Ambrose Seyfert. The collision was reported by the Davis Police Department (DPD) who stated that it took place at night on the south side of the city. The suspected driver was reportedly taken into custody the following day at an undisclosed location in Sacramento.

Crash Details

The collision happened at about 8:00 p.m. on Olive Drive north of the intersection at Richards Boulevard outside of Bros Liquor. Seyfert was walking outside of the liquor store when they were struck by a pickup truck. The truck driver reportedly fled the area immediately after the crash.

The collision was promptly reported to police by witnesses, and dispatchers immediately sent responders to the scene. When they arrived, paramedics discovered Seyfert was critically injured during the crash. Sadly, he passed away on-site.

Arrest and Investigation

Olive Drive was closed to traffic for several hours while police investigated the area, labeling it a crime scene. Initially, police declined to offer a description of the vehicle, citing that it could compromise their search for the missing driver.

At 10:30 a.m. the next day, the driver was placed under arrest on a felony hit-and-run charge and booked into the Yolo County jail. DPD has indicated that a full investigation into this accident is ongoing.

The Impact of Fatal Accidents

Families facing the loss of a loved one due to a sudden car accident often experience very intense feelings of grief. The grief associated with such a traumatic loss can be overwhelming, and many people find it difficult to keep up with their daily lives in these situations. Because of this, it’s important that grieving individuals do what they can to take care of themselves and their loved ones. Often, this means taking time away from your regular responsibilities and seeking support from family members, friends, and people in your communities.

However, fatal accidents can also have a serious financial impact and may leave families economically insecure. Losing a person in your household can also mean losing an income source as well as access to valuable services that your loved one used to perform. Furthermore, families are commonly left with medical bills related to the accident and may be shocked to learn how expensive funeral and burial costs are.
