Davis Amtrak Accident Causes Fatal Injury

On Monday, September 16, 2019, a Davis Amtrak accident reportedly caused fatal injuries. The accident involved a small passenger vehicle and an Amtrak train and took place in the afternoon. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that one man was fatally injured during the incident. The man has been identified as Richard Bruce Campbell, an 82-year-old resident of Davis. According to reports, Campell was the only person injured during the incident. The collision is under active investigation by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.

Collision Details

According to police, the accident happened just east of Davis on the Capitol Corridor train track to Sacramento. A silver Toyota sedan had been driving on County Road 32A and was on the tracks near the intersection of County Road 105 when it was struck by a westbound Amtrak train at around 12:30 p.m. The train reportedly traveled around a quarter-mile after the initial collision before coming to a complete stop.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the site of the collision immediately. Responders discovered Campbell inside of his vehicle and tragically declared him deceased on-scene. While police investigated the accident site and workers cleared debris, train travel was delayed in both eastbound and westbound directions. Amtrak indicated that travel resumed about an hour after the incident took place.

Train Accidents

In recent years, railroad accidents such as this one have prompted federal lawmakers to increase funding for railroad crossing improvements. However, railroad crossings are still dangerous, and there are laws governing the safety of these areas. After an accident, it’s crucial to have a lawyer who can investigate the accident and give police the information that decedents could not. An attorney will be able to find out if any laws have been violated in order to determine whether or not the decedent’s family may be owed compensation for their losses.

Wrongful Death Compensation

The death of a loved one is often a very traumatic event, and family members can be left in a state of emotional shock. Many find it difficult to move on with their lives without the support and love of the person who passed away. While it’s not possible to replace a family member or friend, wrongful death claims can help people get the financial stability they need during such a difficult period of time. In many cases, the families of decedents are able to claim a variety of payments from negligent parties, including compensation for lost inheritance, income, loss of parental guidance, pain and suffering, and more.

Even though many people know that they should get in touch with a lawyer, they find it difficult to reach out because of their emotional distress. This makes sense, and it is important to make exceptions for yourself while you are coping with grief. However, negligent parties usually don’t wait to begin working to mitigate their responsibility for the accident in the eyes of courts and insurers. Having a lawyer on your side right away is often a crucial part of claiming the compensation you deserve.
