Critical Injuries Reported in Highway 99 Wrong-Way Crash

A teenage driver was placed under arrest in Sacramento on July 28 following a wrong-way crash with multiple other vehicles. The accident occurred on Highway 99 near Fruitridge Road at about 10:46 p.m., causing a critical injury. Officers with the South Sacramento California Highway Patrol (CHP) office stated the driver of a BMW headed down northbound Highway 99 in the wrong direction.

Wrong-Way Crash Suspected DUI Driver Causes Additional Injuries

The BMW driver’s vehicle sideswiped a Toyota, which an Orangevale woman, age 20, drove. Because of the collision, the BMW swerved to the side, crashing into the Dodge of a Modesto resident, age 27. The BMW caught fire following the second accident in the wrong-way collision.

Multiple Injuries Reported in Accident

The female driver of a Lexus, another Modesto resident, age 31, was near the Dodge when the BMW struck it, causing the vehicles to collide in the wrong-way crash. The Dodge driver reportedly suffered critical injuries. The drivers of the Lexus and Toyota sustained minor trauma. The highway was closed for several hours until the scene was cleared. The CHP traffic collision unit is conducting an investigation into the accident.

The Benefits of Hiring an Injury Lawyer

An injury accident can only be compensated if negligence on the part of the other people involved can be established. Injury lawyers are responsible for gathering evidence that points toward negligence. By doing so, they can help their clients recover damages. Some areas where evidence is collected are through witness interviews, accident reconstruction and checking surveillance cameras. In addition, the police report is examined for errors that could affect the injured party’s ability to file a claim.

Causes of a Wrong-Way Crash

Understanding the causes of wrong-way driving is essential for preventing future accidents caused by wrong-way drivers. Wrong-way driving is more likely to occur when a driver is intoxicated, using a cell phone while driving or fatigued. However, incorrectly placed signage and other problems may lead to a driver going the wrong way. When a government entity has erred and an accident has occurred, it may be held responsible. The time limit to file against a government entity is six months, so hiring a lawyer to handle the case could be a good move.

The Compensation Process After an Injury

The following compensation may be available to you if you were injured in a wrong-way crash:

  • Accident-related medical costs include hospitalization, surgeries, and doctor’s bills.
  • You can recover lost wages, pensions, and insurance benefits if you are unable to work.
  • A wrong-way motorist accident on the wrong side of the road may result in physical and psychological injuries. Through pain and suffering compensation, you can get repayment for both your injuries and emotional suffering. It is not uncommon for those who have been injured to develop post-traumatic stress disorder, which requires professional help. Those costs are also recoverable.
