Injury Crash With Vehicle Fire on Southbound Highway 99 Near Mack Road

An injury crash with vehicle fire  on Southbound Highway 99 near Mack Road.  A serious crash involving injuries was reported on Saturday evening, January 3, 2026, on southbound Highway 99 near Mack Road in South Sacramento. The collision occurred at approximately 5:38 p.m. and involved a dark-colored Honda Accord with blacked-out license plates. First responders rushed to the scene after reports that the vehicle had briefly caught fire following the crash.

Two individuals sustained injuries and received medical treatment at the scene. While the severity of the injuries has not yet been confirmed, the response was heightened due to the fire risk and the number of people involved. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames as authorities worked to secure the area.

Traffic along southbound Highway 99 was temporarily impacted while the California Highway Patrol conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage.

Why Hiring a Personal Injury Attorney After a Highway Crash Is Important

Highway crashes often involve high speeds, severe injuries, and complex liability questions—especially when vehicle fires or unusual factors are involved. A personal injury attorney can help injured victims understand their legal rights, investigate the cause of the collision, and handle communications with insurance companies. Legal representation is critical to pursuing full compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering, while helping ensure victims are not pressured into accepting inadequate settlements before the full extent of their injuries is known.

Highway 99 Safety Tips for Sacramento Drivers

Highway 99 is one of the busiest travel corridors in South Sacramento and requires constant vigilance from drivers. Maintaining safe following distances, obeying speed limits, and staying alert for sudden traffic slowdowns can help reduce the risk of serious collisions. Proper vehicle maintenance is also essential, as mechanical issues can contribute to crashes and increase the risk of post-collision fires. Defensive driving remains one of the most effective ways to stay safe on heavily traveled highways.
