Major Injury Crash in El Dorado County

On Friday, February 21, 2020, a 64-year-old man from Somerset suffered severe trauma during a crash in El Dorado County. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that this collision involved two vehicles and happened on a rural road to the east of Somerset. No other individuals were reported to have suffered injuries as a result of the accident. Additionally, hospital staff has not released any updates regarding the health condition of the injured individual.

Crash Information

According to police, the Somerset man had been driving north on Grizzly Flat Road in his Toyota Corolla at around 6:55 p.m. At the same time, a 17-year-old from Citrus Heights was driving a Volkswagen hatchback southbound in the same area, approaching the Corolla. As both vehicles entered a curve in the road, the Volkswagen reportedly crossed over into the northbound lane, entering the first vehicle’s path.

Police indicated that the Toyota driver attempted to avoid the collision by hitting his brakes but was unable to maneuver around the other vehicle. The Volkswagen collided head-on with the left-front side of the Toyota, sending the Corolla spinning counterclockwise. As the sedan spun out, it traveled off-road. Eventually, the Toyota’s rear-end struck an uphill dirt embankment on the shoulder of the northbound side of the highway.

Response

CHP immediately dispatched an emergency response team to the collision scene after being notified about the incident. Responders reaching the scene discovered the Somerset man in his vehicle and determined that he had sustained severe injuries. The man was driven to the Marshall Hospital, where he stayed until Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at which point he was transferred to a different medical facility.

The teenage driver did not complain of any physical injuries to responding officials and was released at the collision scene.

Investigation

CHP investigators have stated that they are looking into what may have caused this crash and that they do not currently understand why the Volkswagen entered northbound traffic. In many cases, collisions like this one are caused by more than one factor, many of which can include things that drivers can’t control, such as defective car parts or dangerous roads.

Injury Recovery

Many people who survive car accidents are left with injuries that change their lives. Recovering after suffering a major injury can be a process that takes months or even years, and many people are left with symptoms that affect them permanently. Furthermore, the recovery process is often painful, mentally stressful, and, finally, expensive.

However, it’s possible for crash survivors to get help. By reaching out to a trusted attorney and filing an injury claim, many crash survivors are able to hold negligent parties responsible for the damages they’ve suffered. By doing so, survivors are frequently able to recover the payments they need to afford medical care, cover lost income, and more.
