Multi-Vehicle Crash Causes Delays on Interstate 80 Near Madison Avenue
A multi-vehicle crash causes delays on Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue, on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision that caused injuries occurred at approximately 7:32 a.m. in the westbound lanes just east of Madison Avenue. Early reports indicate that a black sedan struck a gold Dodge Ram that had been stopped in traffic.
Following the initial impact, the Dodge Ram also collided with a nearby semi-truck. Debris from the crash was scattered across the slow lane, and at least one vehicle sustained heavy damage.
One of the involved vehicles temporarily blocked the slow lane before being moved to the right shoulder. The semi-truck also pulled over to the shoulder while emergency crews and tow services worked to clear the scene. The incident was later classified as a minor-injury collision, and traffic flow was restored after the damaged vehicles were removed.
Driver Safety Tips for Freeway Traffic
Multi-vehicle crashes often occur during heavy morning commutes. Drivers can help reduce the risk of chain-reaction collisions by:
- Maintaining a safe following distance, especially in stop-and-go traffic
- Staying alert for sudden slowdowns or stopped vehicles ahead
- Avoiding distractions such as texting or adjusting in-vehicle devices
- Gradually reducing speed instead of braking abruptly when possible
- Using hazard lights if forced to stop unexpectedly on the roadway
