Determining the Cause of an Intersection Accident

In order to accurately determine the cause of an intersection traffic accident, it is important to analyze all of the evidence and information that is available. This can include things like skid marks, damage to the vehicles involved and witness statements. Once all of this information has been gathered and analyzed, it can be used to help reconstruct the accident and determine what happened.

Common Factors That Lead to an Intersection Traffic Accident

There are a number of different factors that can contribute to an accident at an intersection. Some of the most common include:

  • Driver error: This is the most common reason for accidents at intersections and can include things like failing to yield to another vehicle, running a red light or stop sign or making an improper turn.
  • Distracted driving: This has become an increasingly common problem in recent years as more and more drivers are using their phones while behind the wheel, texting and checking their GPS.
  • Impaired driving: This can refer to either alcohol or drug use and can greatly increase the likelihood of a traffic accident occurring.
  • Poor road conditions: This can include things like potholes, debris in the road or faulty traffic signals. When poor road conditions cause a traffic collision, the injured party may place a claim against the government entity responsible for maintenance to recover compensation. However, the time limit to file is only six months, so seeking help from an accident attorney may be a good move.
