Collision Kills Anderson Bicyclist

Authorities have reported that a serious car accident took place near Anderson on Sunday, January 13, 2019. The collision involved a sports utility vehicle and a bicyclist and took place in the early afternoon. Responders reported that the cyclist was left with injuries that cost him his life. The fatally injured man has only been identified as a 65-year-old Anderson resident. County officials say they are waiting until the man’s family has been notified to publicly release his identity. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the bicycle accident is still under investigation. I’d like to extend my condolences to those who have tragically lost a family member and friend because of this collision.

Accident Information

The crash took place at around 1:18 p.m. on Highway 273 about a quarter mile to the south of Happy Valley Road between Anderson and Redding. The Anderson man had been riding his bicycle on the highway and was traveling south when he was approached from behind by a 2002 Ford Expedition driving in the highway’s right-most lane. The Expedition, driven by a 56-year-old woman from Anderson, struck the cyclist, knocking him off of his bike and onto the road. CHP has not reported what specific events led to the collision.

Emergency personnel was immediately sent to respond to the crash. Medics at the accident scene reported that they discovered the cyclist with serious injuries. Sadly, the man was not able to recover from his trauma and passed away at the scene of the collision. The driver of the Expedition was not reported to have been injured during the crash.

Investigation

While CHP is investigating this accident, officers haven’t mentioned which factors, if any, they suspect may have been involved. However, police did note that driver intoxication does not appear to have been a factor. Accidents like this one can happen for a wide variety of reasons, and many accidents involve multiple collision factors. Some of the factors commonly involved in vehicle/cyclist accidents include things like driving while distracted, speeding, medical issues, bicycle defects, roadway problems, and more.

Quick Action

After learning the news of a fatal car accident, families can experience intense feelings of grief. The grieving process can be overwhelming, and it often leaves people feeling exhausted. This can make calling a lawyer seem like a difficult task that you might want to put off. While taking time to grieve is very important, liable parties usually won’t wait to begin protecting themselves from financial responsibility. The sooner a lawyer can start working on your wrongful death case; the more capable they are of effectively investigating the accident, which is often an invaluable part of claiming compensation for your losses.

I’ve found that people sometimes delay calling a lawyer because they don’t know how to make sure they are speaking with an attorney they can trust. This is a valid concern. However, there are a few simple ways that you can make sure your lawyer is experienced and well-respected in their community. To learn about these methods, see the below YouTube video:
