The passenger of the truck, a 61-year-old woman from Clovis, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Los Banos. What are the Most Common Causes of RV Accidents?

A recreational vehicle (RV) is great for traveling, vacation, or long-term living. On the other hand, RVs can create a potential danger to occupants and others on the roadway. Whether it is a camper van, fifth-wheel, travel trailer, or another type of RV, an accident involving any of these can result in catastrophic injury or even death due to their weight and size. Some of the common reasons for collisions involving motorhomes, trailers, and RVs include:

  • Runaway trailers caused by mishandled or faulty equipment, speeding, overloading, brake failure, sudden turns, and more
  • Unbalanced loads can increase the risk of rollover accidents for RVs
  • Overloading an RV can make it more challenging to stop in time to avoid a collision
  • Blind spots of an RV can be much larger than those of passenger of vehicles and having warning devices and multiple mirrors may not always help
  • Manufacturing defects of RVs can increase the likelihood of a rollover accident due to faulty parts and equipment or exacerbation of injuries from failing to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216 on roof crush resistance

As with other types of motor vehicle collisions, negligent actions such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, texting while driving, and other forms of carelessness may be involved and result in an RV injury accident. For information on how fault is determined in every personal injury case, watch the video below.

What Types of Injuries are Common in Camper Accidents?

An RV accident has the potential to result in some of the most catastrophic injuries on the spectrum, regardless of whether the vehicle was stationary or moving. The dangers involved in motor vehicle accidents involving RVs are significant and may cause bone fractures, burns, traumatic brain injuries, internal trauma, and more. Such trauma may result in mounting medical expenses and lost income. If permanent scarring or disfigurement is involved, it can not only affect the injured party but also their entire family.
