Citrus Heights Motorcycle Accident Causes Major Injuries

A Citrus Heights motorcycle accident on July 26 left a biker with major injuries. The accident happened on Greenback Lane in the vicinity of Birdcage Street at approximately 6:00 p.m. According to Citrus Heights Police, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet when the crash happened. The rider was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The motor vehicle driver stayed at the scene of the accident and was answering the officer’s questions. At this time, investigating officers said that the use of alcohol or drugs did not appear to be involved.

What an Attorney Can Do for You

An injury lawyer helps determine why an accident happened and ensure that a client will receive the compensation they deserve. We begin by using our own tested investigative techniques to find out who was at fault. To do this, we examine the scene of the accident for clues of negligence such as skid marks and interview witnesses to the crash. Next, we look for CCTV cameras attached to storefront businesses if the crash occurred in an urban area or those on traffic lights at intersections. We also check police reports for inaccuracies.

This evidence is then used as data in structuring a strong case against the negligent driver. When a biker is injured in a crash, the last thing they or their family can devote time to is working on a personal injury case. We take that responsibility off you by talking to and negotiating with insurance companies and preparing to go to civil court if the insurer fails in their responsibility to you. It is important to call us as soon as possible after the accident so that evidence has not been disturbed or hidden.

Common Injuries in a Motorcycle Accident

Some of the common injuries in a motorcycle accident are:

  • Traumatic brain injuries: There are a variety of traumatic brain injuries. Some such as a mild concussion resolve quickly, while others are incapacitating or fatal. For example, a subdural hematoma caused by an impact to the head may require surgery. Depending on the type of traumatic brain injury that occurs, the severity can be calculated.
  • Road rash: This type of injury occurs when the biker is dragged across the road surface after falling. The severity of this injury is largely related to the clothing the biker is wearing. Long pants and leather jackets can protect the biker to some extent, leaving them with scrapes and bruising. Less protective clothing can leave a motorcyclist with serious lacerations as well as nerve and muscle damage as the skin gives way to underlying layers.
  • Fractured bones: When the motorcyclist is thrown from their bike, fractured bones commonly occur. This can happen on any area of the body such as the arms, hips, feet, and wrists. Broken legs are seen most often.
  • Neck injuries: Neck injuries occur frequently. This can involve stress to the muscles, a herniated disk, or fractured vertebrae.

What Damages Can Be Recovered in a Personal Injury Lawsuit

A physical injury has financial components associated with it. For instance, if you break your leg, you will require a visit to the emergency room, the care provided by a physician and possibly rehabilitation. All of these things cost money. So does the time you are unable to work. If you are in pain because of the fracture, the pain and suffering counts as a financial component of your injury. The financial components or damages are recoverable through a personal injury claim. An injury lawyer will be able to determine the damages you suffered and present them to the insurance company of the negligent person for reimbursement. If the insurer reneges on their obligation, then the lawyer can present the findings in civil court to obtain the compensation you deserve.
