Children Injured After Car Crash in Modesto

Two children were injured and transported to the hospital after a chain-reaction car crash on Highway 99 in Modesto, CA, on the early morning of Sunday, August 30, 2020. The series of motor vehicle accidents occurred around 2:05 a.m. on southbound State Route 99 just north of the Standiford Avenue and Beckwith Road interchange. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the first collision occurred when a 2005 GMC SUV veered to the left and crashed into a center divider. The driver of the GMC reportedly fled the scene on foot and left the vehicle behind, partially blocking the fast lane of the highway.

Approximately a minute later, a driver of a 2006 Honda sedan was headed southbound in the fast lane when they were unable to avoid the GMC and struck the SUV. It is unknown whether the driver of the Honda was injured. However, the two minor passengers of the Honda suffered moderate to serious injuries. The rear passenger, an 8-year-old girl, was transported via air ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment of a femur fracture. The other passenger, a 13-year-old girl, was taken by ground ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto to be treated for chest pain complaints. An update regarding the conditions of the two children injured in the car accident and the details regarding the hit and run driver were not immediately available.

Types of Personal Injury Compensation for a Car Accident

There are many reasons for motor vehicle crashes, but most traffic collisions are caused by driver error. Whether you are hurt in a car crash because of a driver who is drowsy, distracted, or intoxicated, or someone who failed to exercise due care while driving, your best option for recovery is to speak to an experienced personal injury attorney in Modesto. An accident lawyer can assess your personal injury claim and determine what types of damages you may be entitled to for your injuries and losses incurred. If your case involves a hit and run, your attorney will deal with your insurance company and bring an uninsured motorist coverage claim on your behalf. Depending upon the facts and circumstances of your accident case, your injury attorney may seek compensation for the following economic and non-economic damages:

  • Past and future medical treatment and costs
  • Lost income
  • Loss of future earnings
  • Pain and suffering
  • Property damage
  • Punitive damages in cases where the accident was the result of egregious conduct like drunk driving or excessive speeding

Should I Talk to the Insurance Company After Being Injured in a Modesto Car Crash?

Do not sign any documents from an insurance company or agree to a recorded statement without consulting with an experienced Modesto personal injury lawyer. As with any insurance claims negotiation process, the first settlement offer is often low. For those who are dealing with injuries, mounting medical expenses, time lost at work, and other damages, a low-ball settlement offer may come from a claims adjuster before you truly understand the extent of your losses. An experienced accident attorney can conduct a thorough analysis and calculation of your personal injury damages, document your injuries and how they have impacted your life, and prepare a strong case for full and fair financial compensation.
