Ceres Hit and Run Accident Fatally Injures Bicyclist

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury lawyer. A hit and run accident claimed the life of a bicyclist in south Ceres on June 15, 2018. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were dispatched to the scene of a hit and run along Service Road and Moffett Road shortly after 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival, CHP officers discovered an injured bicyclist who appeared to have been thrown off their BMX bike after being struck by an oncoming vehicle. Unfortunately, the bicyclist succumbed to their injuries a short time after the crash. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 27-year-old Aaron Bryant of Ceres.

My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the man who lost his life in this tragic accident.

Loved One Forever Remembered

Aaron Bryant was a beloved member of his family. He touched the hearts of those he encountered with his kind and loving soul. Despite being a survivor all his life from a brain tumor, his life was tragically cut short due to the heartless and careless actions of another. His family has set up a GoFundMe account to help bring him to his final resting place.

Accident Investigation

Authorities publicly released an image of the suspect vehicle from surveillance camera footage within the area of the accident. The vehicle was described as a 2014 or 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck in black or dark gray color which reportedly continued westbound along Service Road prior to turning onto Blaker Road.

Based on a tip submitted by an informant, the GMC was seized and confirmed to be the vehicle in question. Details surrounding the charges the responsible driver may face has not yet been released to the public.

Coverage in Hit and Run Accidents

Being a victim of a hit and run accident can be traumatic and stressful, especially as a bicyclist. A victim may be unsure of how they will be compensated for the damages to their bike or any injuries they may have sustained due to the accident. In these types of cases, Uninsured Motorist Protection (UM) is usually available so long as the bicyclist or someone within their household has an automobile insurance policy with this coverage. Wrongful Death Claims

A wrongful death occurs when an individual passes away due to the negligence of another party or entity. Families who have lost a loved one due to wrongful death can file a claim for resulting damages.  Contact an attorney for more information.

Recoverable damages in these claims include:

  • Costs of a burial and funeral
  • End-of-life medical expenses
  • Benefits the decedent would have received had they lived such as bonuses, family health insurance, pension, etc.
  • Guidance and training the decedent’s children would have received
  • Financial support the decedent would have contributed to his or her family
  • Loss of the decedent’s affection, assistance, care, comfort, companionship, and moral support
  • Pain and suffering
  • Services that were provided by the decedent
