Intersection Accident on Cypress Avenue Claims Life of Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist fatality in Carmichael happened on June 6 at a local intersection following a T-bone crash. The collision occurred around 1:36 in the afternoon at the intersection of Cypress Avenue and Stillmeadow Way. The police incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the motorcycle struck the vehicle in the side in a T-bone crash when the car made a turn in front of the rider.

Longtime Residents Painfully Aware of this Dangerous Intersection

Cypress Avenue and Stillmeadow Way Intersection

The intersection of Stillmeadow Way & Cypress Avenue is an extremely dangerous intersection. Longtime residents know that people making a left turn from Stillmeadow Way is a hazardous undertaking. It’s sad that the City of Sacramento has not taken action to abate this condition.

Many accidents are caused when someone tries to make a left-hand turn when their view is partially blocked by foliage or trees on adjacent property.

In addition to the other driver who is at fault, there often is a case against the Homeowner or City whose duty it is to maintain such trees and foliage.

Vehicles Taken Into Evidence as Motorcyclist Fatality Accident Is Investigated

The accident blocked the intersection while investigators with the CHP determined exactly how the motorcyclist fatality collision occurred. Both the motorcycle and car were taken into evidence as the investigation continues. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has recently identified the motorcycle rider as 39-year-old Karlon Odeon Reid.

Causes of a Motorcyclist Fatality

While serious motorcyclist injuries and fatalities can occur in a number of different ways when involved in a crash with a passenger vehicle, the following are the most common, among others:

  • A vehicle turns in front of the motorcycle rider: Although some motorists say they never saw the rider coming toward them, a driver often tries to beat the motorcyclist across the road or misjudges the distance. In any of these scenarios, the driver is guilty of negligence.
  • Intersection accidents: More than half of all accidents of any type occur at intersections. Most of these accidents are caused by negligence of one type or another, including running a red light or speeding.
  • A motorcyclist runs into an open car door: A vehicle parked at the curb may have the driver or a passenger open the car door without looking for an oncoming rider, resulting in a motorcyclist fatality.
  • Drunk drivers: Drivers who are inebriated or have been using drugs can easily cause a motorcyclist fatality because they weave all over the road, have poor reflexes and are incapable of handling a car safely.
  • Fatigued drivers: People who are too tired to drive are often compared to drunk drivers in their inability to safely handle a vehicle. A driver who is too fatigued can drift asleep at the wheel, which results in a motorcyclist fatality.

How an Attorney Can Help

Over the years, our law firm has helped many families obtain compensation after losing a loved one to a motorcyclist fatality that was a wrongful death. We may be able to help your family too. Because of the unfair stigma that sometimes attaches itself to motorcycle riders, it’s important to have an injury attorney who realizes this and ensures it does not affect the family’s ability to obtain the compensation they deserve. By fighting for your rights, your family can grieve in peace with the burden of financial stress lifted from their shoulders and onto ours.

Carmichael wrongful death lawyer Ed Smith discusses what you should know about motorcycle accidents:
