Things to Know About the Claims Process Following a Car Accident

Many injured people may shift their focus onto the issues that may arise in the aftermath of a car accident. This may include car repair expenses, missed time from work, and medical bills, all of which may quickly mount with a short amount of time. During this difficult time, the insurance company representing the other party may attempt to offer an initial settlement in hopes of an injured party accepting it. What should be known about any initial settlement offer from an insurer is that it may not consider the full extent of injuries and losses incurred. Before agreeing to any recorded statement or signing any documents from the insurance carrier, it is essential to speak with an experienced injury lawyer first.

The reason why it is crucial to discuss a personal injury case with an accident attorney is that they will have the best interests of the injured party at heart, unlike the insurance carrier. What is often unknown about the practices that insurance companies utilize is that they are tailored toward protecting their bottom line as a business. The most unfortunate aspect of this approach is that it may also apply to first-party insurance claims when an injured party files under their uninsured and underinsured motorist portion of their policy if the other driver has little to no liability coverage. Therefore, the decisions you make in the first days following a traffic collision may have crucial and lasting consequences for the resolution of your claim. How Our Law Firm Can Help You

At our law firm, we understand that retaining legal counsel may not be the first thing on your list of priorities. However, working with an attorney may make the difference in not only the outcome of your case but also providing you the time to focus on recovering and being with your family instead of dealing with paperwork and difficult insurers. Some of the ways in which our legal team may help you include:

  • Conducting an investigation into the incident to properly determine the cause
  • Gathering and preserving the evidence necessary in proving your claim
  • Communicating and negotiating with the insurer on your behalf
  • Working with experts to determine the effect accident-related injuries may have on your life now and into the future
  • If all attempts at a fair settlement agreement fail with the insurance carrier as the statute of limitations is approaching, we will file a lawsuit in civil court to protect the statute and move forward with litigation
  • Present your case in court to a judge and jury to obtain a favorable financial award

Do not depend on the insurance company to do the right thing. The unfortunate reality is that their goal is to settle your personal injury claim for as little as possible. Contact one of our accident attorneys today to learn about your rights and options for recovery moving forward.
