Car Accident on Silverado Trail Leaves Teen Seriously Injured

Car Accident on Silverado Trail Seriously Injures Teen

On Thursday, July 23, 2020, a 19-year-old woman suffered serious injuries during a car accident on Silverado Trail in Napa County. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened during the afternoon and involved four separate vehicles. As of the latest reports, the injured teen was in hospital custody and the accident remained under official investigation.

Crash Information

The accident took place on Silverado Trail to the north of the intersection at Oak Knoll Avenue at approximately 3:00 p.m. A 19-year-old woman from Napa was reportedly driving a BMW northbound on Silverado while a 45-year-old Napa man was driving a van south on the same road. For unknown reasons, the van suddenly swerved to the left and crossed into northbound traffic.

In order to avoid a collision with the van, the teen swerved her BMW onto the roadway shoulder. However, as she entered the shoulder, she lost control. The BMW rotated back into the southbound lane and entered the path of an oncoming pickup truck driven by a 40-year-old Fairfield man. While the pickup had already been slowing in order to avoid the crash, the driver’s side of the BMW struck its front end. The pickup was subsequently pushed into a fourth vehicle, driven by a 59-year-old man from Vallejo.

Response

CHP dispatched a response team to the crash scene right after being notified about the incident. At the site, responders determined that the 19-year-old had suffered major trauma and had her driven via ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. No other drivers were reported to have sustained serious injuries.

Investigation

While CHP is investigating the crash, no likely causal factors have been reported by investigators. However, officers have stated that all involved parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and that none of the drivers were suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Crashes that involve multiple vehicles are often complicated and caused by multiple factors. Furthermore, in many cases, car accidents are caused by factors not under driver control. These can include hazardous roads, defective auto products, and more.
