Fatal Crash Near Los Banos
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. A two-car collision occurred northwest of Los Banos during the early morning hours of Friday, July 14, 2017. Sadly, the accident caused one victim to suffer traumatic injuries and another victim to suffer fatal injuries.
What Happened?
A 21-year-old Los Banos man was driving his 2002 Honda Accord northbound along Ingomar Grade Road in the vicinity of Fahey Road at approximately 5:20 am. The man allegedly lost control of his vehicle along the east shoulder of the roadway. The car then veered over both lanes of Ingomar Grade Road and collided with a 1998 Toyota Tundra that was traveling southbound. The Toyota struck the passenger side of the Honda, propelling both vehicles off the west side of Ingomar Grade Road.
Was Anybody Injured?
The driver of the Toyota Tundra was identified as a 56-year-old Sacramento man. The Sacramento man suffered major injuries due to the crash and was transported to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Sadly, the motorist of the Honda Accord passed away at the scene.
Our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of the young man that passed away in this tragic accident. Our thoughts are also with the driver of the Toyota as he recovers from his injuries.
Accident Investigation
Investigators have not yet released the cause of the car accident. It generally takes authorities one to two weeks to process a Traffic Collision Report. However, police do not suspect that alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. Sometimes traffic reports may be inconclusive pertaining to fault. Similar Fatal Car Accident Near Merced
A similar car accident took place near Merced on the morning of May 16, 2017. A Toyota Camry was driving along Highway 59 in the vicinity of Reilly Road and Vassar Avenue. For unknown reasons, the Toyota struck a pickup truck head-on. The force from the collision caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway. The Toyota sustained severe body damage due to the accident. According to officials, at least one victim suffered fatal injuries due to this collision.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Highway Loss Data Institute (IIHS-HLDI), there were 32,166 fatal motor vehicle accidents in 2015. Approximately 35,092 victims lost their lives in these accidents. In California alone, there were 2,925 fatal crashes which resulted in 3,176 deaths. It is important to always pay close attention to the roadway and avoid distracted driving habits such as texting and driving or driving under the influence.
