Two-Vehicle Collision on Westbound U.S. 50

A traffic collision involving a pickup and semi occurred in Cameron Park on July 11 that resulted in minor injuries. The accident happened when the driver of a Ford F-150 truck collided with the semi and then struck the center median. The accident occurred along westbound U.S. 50 just west of the Cameron Park Drive on-ramp.

Traffic Blocked

Lanes one and two were blocked by the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and debris was strewn in the roadway. The pickup was reportedly carrying a woman and multiple children, however, only minor injuries were reported. The accident is being investigated to determine the cause of the traffic collision.

Lawsuit in a Truck Accident

Accidents involving trucks can be catastrophic. Compared to a passenger vehicle, the truck is considerably larger and heavier. If you are injured as a result of a trucker’s negligence, you may be able to file a claim against them as well as the trucking company for which they work.

On occasion, it appears that the passenger vehicle caused the traffic collision. However, this can be an illusion. The trucker may not use the appropriate means to ensure safety. Only an experienced accident attorney can investigate the claim to determine liability.

Why Does a Truck Accident Happen?

This is an extremely important question that must be answered. Your injury lawyer will use every investigative tool to determine fault. These include examining the traffic collision site, interviewing witnesses, and performing accident reconstruction. Traffic surveillance cameras and the trucker’s log are two other ways to get a clear picture of how the accident occurred.

Among the most common causes of truck accidents are:

  • It is not uncommon for companies to hire truckers with insufficient experience. This leads to accidents.
  • Because truckers are often under pressure to reach their destination, they may fail to take the minimum amount of rest required by law.
  • Cell phones, texting, and eating all contribute to distracted driving
  • The use of over-the-counter medicines to stay awake is a common practice among truckers.
  •  Loading haphazardly can make the cargo shift and cause the truck to jackknife or rollover.
  • Maintaining the truck properly is important. This can lead to a lawsuit if the trucker or the trucking company does not follow this practice and a traffic collision occurs.
  • Driving aggressively can happen when you’re on the road for a long period of time.
  • There can be truck defects such as defective tires, brakes and others. When an accident occurs, the manufacturer of the defective parts can be sued by placing a product liability claim. It is important to review logs and trucking company records if a defective part is suspected. Not only can the manufacturer be sued but so can the trucking company if they knew about the defect and did nothing.
