Calaveras County Car Accident Causes Injury to Elderly Man

Crash Injures Ione Man Near Calaveras County

A head-on accident occurred in Calaveras County near Forest Meadows on the afternoon of Saturday, August 26, 2017. The collision, unfortunately, caused an Ione man along with two other victims to suffer traumatic injuries.

What Happened?

A 61-year-old Arnold man was driving his 2013 Ford Escape eastbound along Highway 4 in the vicinity of Sunset Ridge Court at approximately 2:25 pm. For unknown reasons, the man allegedly fell asleep while driving and veered into the opposing lane of travel. The Ford struck an oncoming 2013 Subaru Outback driven by a 65-year-old Cerritos woman. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to sustain serious front-end damage.

Were They Okay?

The driver of the Subaru Outback and her 73-year-old Ione passenger both suffered major injuries as a result of the head-on accident. They were both transported via air ambulance to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. The motorist of the Ford Escape also suffered serious injuries and was flown to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

What Caused the Accident?

It is still too soon to determine the cause of the accident. Authorities usually take one to two weeks from the date of the accident to process a Traffic Collision Report. However, officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) do not suspect that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Traffic reports may sometimes contain errors or be inconclusive pertaining to fault. It is critical to contact an experienced Ione personal injury lawyer who can investigate the crash scene and study the sequence of events leading up to the collision to pinpoint liability. Contact an Ione car accident lawyer for more information.

Although these crashes account for a small percentage of all motor vehicle accidents, they oftentimes result in life-altering injuries to vehicle occupants or even death. If you or a member of your family has been involved in a head-on accident, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
