Brentwood Man Dies in Triple-Vehicle Collision

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, a Brentwood man tragically passed away after suffering injuries in an area auto accident. The man has since been identified by Contra Costa County authorities as 27-year-old Brian Shuck. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident happened in the afternoon between Oakley and Concord and involved three vehicles. In addition to Shuck, two other people suffered trauma as a result of the crash.

Collision Information

The crash took place at 2:34 p.m. on Vasco Road, a short distance to the south of Camino Diablo Road. According to CHP statements, Shuck was driving north in a Chevrolet pickup when his vehicle drifted over the median for unknown reasons. As the Ford entered southbound traffic, it entered the path of a box truck. The two vehicles collided head-on.

The initial collision caused the larger truck to spin out. According to reports, a southbound GMC SUV traveling behind the box truck collided with the spinning vehicle.

Response

CHP dispatch ordered a response team to the crash site after they were notified about the incident. Arriving officials found that Shuck was critically injured as a result of the crash. Tragically, the man was declared deceased at the accident site. Both the driver of the SUV and box truck reported pain to authorities. Whether or not either of the individuals were hospitalized for treatment was not reported. No other individuals were involved in this accident.

Investigation

Police closed Vasco Road for several hours while officials conducted accident response and investigated the collision scene. According to traffic reports, vehicles were diverted to Interstate 680 until the roadway reopened at around 7:00 p.m.

As an official CHP investigation into possible collision factors is underway, investigators haven’t mentioned any likely causes. Crashes like this one are common and can be caused by multiple factors. Furthermore, a lot of these factors aren’t things that drivers are able to control, such as malfunctioning car parts or issues with the quality of the road.

Getting Help from an Attorney

When a driver loses their life in a car accident, police lose that person’s testimony. This means that the driver is unable to tell police what may have caused the accident, leaving investigators potentially unaware of the real cause of the crash. In many cases, this means that important evidence goes overlooked. The best way to ensure that a fatal collision is investigated to the fullest extent is to work with a Brenwood wrongful death lawyer with the necessary skills, resources, and experience to conduct their own accident investigation.
