Bone Fracture Injury Lawyers

Serious Bone Fractures

Any time there is a blunt force impact while you are driving or riding in a car, truck, or SUV you are facing the prospect of a number of injuries. They can include concussions and whiplash to the spine and nervous system as well as soft tissue damage to tendons and ligaments.

Car Collisions

Bone fractures remain a chief concern during car collisions. In fact, while cars are overall safer than they were even just a few years ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that year over year, over 25,000 people have been injured as a result of these accidents.

Types of Car Crash Bone Fractures

While every bone in your body may be at risk for fractures during an auto accident, the ones in your legs (tibia fracture) and arms are the most likely sites for damage. This is especially true in side-impact crashes. There, you may break either your upper or lower arm if you are bracing yourself as well as your collar bone.

The other extremities are your legs and they are also at serious risk. A femur fracture can be quite serious. Your femur is the largest bone in your body so it may not be injured in a car wreck as easily as others except in significant wrecks. On the other hand, the nearly 30 bones in each of your feet are small and easy to crush. So, too, are the shin bones and those in your ankle.

Regardless of the type of bone fracture, the treatment time can be substantial. Setting a bone may not take that long, but recovery times can be up to several months. If the bone breaks the skin, it may be damaged badly enough that surgery is required and plates or screws used to secure it in place. In addition, complications such as compressed nerves or lacerated blood vessels are fairly common.

Costs of Car Crash Bone Fractures

While one first thinks of medical bills when it comes to bone fractures as a result of auto collisions, personal injury lawyers know that the cost does not end there. In addition to immediate medical treatment, there are additional costs of traumatic injury rehabilitation, long term care, future medical expenses, wage loss, and future wage loss. With pressing concerns like this, it is important to contact an experienced attorney.
