Details on the Hit-and-Run That Injured a Biker Near Fresno

CHP traffic officers received a report of a vehicle versus motorcycle accident at Hughes Avenue and Belmont Avenue near the Fresno area. When authorities arrived at the crash site, they located a motorcyclist lying in the roadway. The biker was breathing but unconscious following the incident. First responders transported him to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

In an investigation conducted at the scene, officials learned that a black SUV was pulling a trailer and headed westbound on Belmont Avenue. At the same time, the motorcycle rider was headed eastbound on Belmont Avenue. For unknown reasons, the SUV driver tried making a U-turn and entered the direct path of the motorcycle rider.

According to investigators, the biker was unable to avoid the SUV in their lane and collided with the vehicle. The SUV driver allegedly left the site following the incident. The CHP canvassed the area for the suspect party and vehicle. Information on the incident, including the suspect vehicle and an update on the injured motorcyclist’s condition, was not immediately available.

What Injured Motorcyclists Should Know About Hit-and-Run Accident Cases

Vehicle versus motorcycle crashes in and around Fresno County is a serious issue. These collisions often lead to catastrophic injuries followed by financial hardship. That is due to the vulnerability of motorcyclists against motor vehicles and their limited physical protection in roadway crashes. When a car collides with a motorcycle rider, the impact may propel the biker to the ground, causing them to suffer traumatic injuries such as bone fractures, road rash, spinal cord injuries, TBIs, and more. If the incident was the result of a negligent driver, the injured biker may seek reimbursement for their losses through a personal injury claim filed against the responsible party and their insurance company.

In motorcycle accident cases involving hit-and-run drivers, it may be challenging for bikers, especially those with serious injuries. Fortunately, recourse may be available based on the facts and circumstances of the case. For instance, if a motorcyclist has uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, their UM protection may come into play and cover damages for a hit-and-run crash. To bring a successful first-party insurance claim forward, there must be substantial evidence that is clear in establishing that another vehicle made contact with the motorcyclist and that contact resulted in injuries and damages. This may include evidence like police reports, medical records, eyewitness statements, and more.
