Big Truck Accident in Elk Grove

Elk Grove Big Truck Accident

A February 21 accident in Elk Grove involving a big truck and a pickup caused the semi to overturn, while part of the tandem rig crashed into power lines along the side of the roadway. The location where the crash occurred was closed for several hours while cleanup of the accident area was conducted and repairs made to the power pole.

What Happened?

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 in the morning along Bradshaw Road Southbound near its intersection with Vintage Park Drive. It was reported that the pickup might have run a red light, causing the semi to make an emergency maneuver, trying to avoid a collision. Instead, the semi overturned, spilling out its cargo of gravel from the first carrier on Bradshaw Road, while the second gravel carrier ended up crashing into a power pole. The collision with the power pole caused the pole to snap in half. The pickup ended up crashed into the median at the intersection with its front end crumpled.

Accident Aftermath

According to a representative of the California Highway Patrol, the carrier’s collision with the power pole caused an outage to schools and homes that were nearby. The driver of the semi was transported to a hospital, complaining of pain. No information has been released on the condition of the pickup driver. The cause of the truck accident is under investigation.

Intersection Accidents

Intersections are particularly dangerous both for drivers of motor vehicles and large trucks. Big trucks require more space and a much longer stopping distance than a motor vehicle. When one overturns, as in the above accident, it can cause serious injuries to those in nearby vehicles. Some injuries commonly incurred by accidents with large trucks include:

  • Broken bones: Because large trucks are so much larger than other motor vehicles, bone fractures can be more severe.
  • Lacerations: A laceration may be a tear or deep cut in the skin, which takes a long time to heal and may leave scarring.
  • Abdominal: An accident with a large truck can cause internal bleeding and injuries to the organs such as the intestines, spleen, liver or bladder.
  • Brain and head: The result of injuries may be heartbreaking because they can result in traumatic brain injury, causing a change in personality, loss of cognitive function and memory problems among others. Some individuals require long-term hospitalization and never return to the way they were before the accident.
  • Spinal cord: This type of injury can range from a slipped disk to destruction of the vertebrae, leaving the individual with partial or complete paralysis.
