Big Rig Catches Fire

I’m Ed Smith, a Galt truck accident attorney. A big rig transporting Kirkland paper towels caught fire during the early morning hours of Monday, January 30, 2017 in Galt. The fire spread to the tractor of the big rig which contained paper towels. This led to a big rig fire along southbound Highway 99 in the vicinity of Twin Cities Road in Galt.

What Happened?

A big rig carrying Kirkland paper towels was traveling southbound along Highway 99. The brake system of the big rig caught fire. The Cosumnes Fire Department received a report about the truck fire shortly before 1:00 am. However, by the time the fire department crews arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread to the trailer. The paper towels in the trailer contributed as fuel to the fire which made it difficult for firefighters to access and extinguish the flames.

Was Anybody Injured?

No. We are pleased to report that there were no injuires sustained as a result of the big rig fire.

Traffic Mayhem

Authorities shut down the southbound lanes of Highway 99 to allow crews to clean-up the debris. Crews were diverting vehicles off the highway at Twin Cities Road and redirecting them back onto the highway through the intersection on the other side of the fire damaged big rig. This resulted in traffic mayhem in the area.

Truck Accident Statistics

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, approximately 29% of all truck accidents happen due to brake system problems. Truck accidents caused by brake system problems can be linked back to the negligence of semi-truck companies. These types of problems can be prevented, however, they continue to play out in truck accidents on the roadway today. It is best to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney for additional information.
