Big Rig Carrying Detergent Overturns on I-5 On-Ramp in Sacramento
Cleanup crews worked early Monday morning, February 23, 2026, after a big rig carrying detergent overturns on I-5 on-ramp in Sacramento at Florin Road.
According to traffic logs from the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. Witnesses reported that the truck veered off the southbound lanes of I-5, traveled through a grassy area, and overturned onto its side.
The impact caused multiple pallets of detergent to spill across the roadway, blocking the on-ramp and creating a hazardous driving surface. Emergency crews were tasked with removing the product and conducting a thorough cleanup before the big rig could be safely uprighted and removed.
Officials reported that the truck driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment but is expected to recover.
Safety Tips for Sharing the Road with Large Trucks
Crashes involving commercial trucks can create serious hazards for motorists, especially when cargo spills or blocks travel lanes. Drivers can reduce risks by following these safety tips:
- Maintain a safe following distance behind large trucks
- Avoid driving in a truck’s blind spots (also known as “no-zones”)
- Reduce speed and remain alert when approaching crash scenes or debris
- Use caution when merging onto freeways, especially in low-visibility conditions
- Follow all posted warnings and directions from emergency personnel
Extra caution around commercial vehicles and active crash scenes can help prevent secondary collisions and injuries.

Why Legal Representation Matters After a Truck Accident
Accidents involving commercial trucks often involve complex liability issues, including potential responsibility for the driver, trucking company, cargo loaders, or vehicle maintenance providers.
An experienced personal injury attorney can investigate the cause of the crash, secure critical evidence, and handle communications with insurance companies. Legal guidance helps ensure injured victims receive compensation for medical expenses, lost income, property damage, and pain and suffering.
