Tahoe Crash Injured Bicyclist

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that one person suffered severe injuries after an auto accident that took place along Lake Tahoe on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. Police stated that the accident involved a bicyclist and a passenger vehicle and took place during the morning on Lake Tahoe’s northwest shore. While reports initially indicated that the cyclist suffered fatal trauma during the accident, CHP later confirmed that the injured party did survive the crash. The injured cyclist has not been identified by authorities, and updates on their condition remain unavailable. CHP has stated that the collision remains under investigation.

Crash Information

The accident happened at around 7:40 a.m. along Router 28 close to the Old Mill Road in the community of Dollar Point around two miles outside of Tahoe City. Investigators say that a 16-year-old driver had been traveling on Route 28 when his vehicle veered for unknown reasons and struck a cyclist. Further information about the circumstances of the collision was not available.

After CHP received notification of the crash, emergency staff were immediately sent to the accident scene. When responders got to the crash site, they found that the cyclist was seriously injured. The cyclist was placed on an ambulance and rushed to a nearby trauma center for emergency medical attention. The driver was reportedly not injured as a result of the accident.

Investigation

CHP reported that the vehicle driver told officers he collided with the cyclist because his vision was impaired by the bright morning sun in his eyes. As an investigation into causal factors of the accident continues, officers have not yet indicated what factors they suspect were part of this collision. Bicycle/vehicle accidents are common, especially on rural roads and can be caused by factors such as driving while distracted by a mobile device, bicycle product defects, hazardous roads, traffic violations, and more.

Recovering from a Serious Injury

Because cyclists do not have the same protection as occupants of passenger vehicles, they are likely to suffer major injuries in the event of a crash. Cyclists are commonly left with injuries that can take months or years to recover from, and the process of recovery can dramatically change people’s lives. Not only do crash survivors often face a long, painful process of physical recovery, but the emotional stress of losing mobility and other issues can be very hard to deal with.

One of the most difficult aspects of recovery after bicycle accident injuries is finances. Medical procedures, ambulance rides, hospital rooms, and other health-related costs are often very steep, and rehabilitation can be even more expensive. Furthermore, suffering an injury that affects your mental and/or physical wellbeing can also leave you unable to do your job either temporarily or permanently.

These concerns are serious. However, injured parties are able to seek compensation for their damages through personal injury claims. To learn more about these claims, watch the following video. However, if you want advice about your case, you should talk to an experienced attorney.
