Top Walking Trails Around Gold River, CA

Gold River is a suburban neighborhood located in Rancho Cordova. With over 7,900 people, the community is one of the best places to live in California. Because of the town’s central location, residents have easy access to some of the best walking trails in Sacramento County.

If you are an avid hiker, you may already know these trails. However, for those looking for different places to venture out this fall season, below are some of the top walking trails in or near Gold River.

Lake Natoma Trail

Natoma Lake Trail is the perfect trail for both beginner and moderate hikers. The trail’s entire length is around 6 miles and curves around the east side of Lake Natoma. You’ll get a nice view of Lake Natoma from different angles. There are a few flat areas, but the trail mainly goes up and down with the terrain. The trail goes through oak woodlands, meadow areas and crosses over two creeks on wooden-decked bridges.

The trail also curves around mounds of river rock, where you’ll see the Gold Rush era remnants. You’ll see plenty of wildlife and local vegetation along the way. Picnic tables can be found all along the trail overlooking the lake.

Location: Hazel Ave Gold River, CA 95670

Fair Oaks Bluff

The Fair Oaks Bluff is a hidden gem tucked away in Old Fair Oaks. It is the go-to spot for getting on the American River Trail. From there, it is a short walk to the bluffs from Bridge Street.

The view from the bridge is spectacular, and you can see the fish jump. If you time it perfectly when the sun starts to go down, you’ll see an incredible sunset, creating an even more fantastic view of the Sacramento area.

American River Parkway

American River Parkway is genuinely one of Sacramento’s greatest assets.  It gives city folks a place to truly enjoy nature, recreation, and outdoor activities. Nature at its best, the trail at American River Parkway goes on for miles and miles. Hikers love this trail for its incredible views and series of long, paved paths that intertwine along the river.  This is also an excellent spot for bird-watching and nature-admiring.

Bannister Park

Bannister Park almost feels as if you’re miles away from civilization with peaceful, tranquil surroundings. It is an excellent place for those who want to hike on a nice day. The trail is paved and leads to other paths along the American Rivers. As soon as you enter the walking path and tree area, the world cuts off immediately, and nature begins.

A huge advantage of Bannister Park is its close proximity to the American River. Its trail, the “San Juan Rapids Trail,” is an easy 2.9-mile roundtrip walk that is paved and adjacent to the river. You will see a lot of wildlife on any given day, including birds, deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, and occasionally, mountain lions and coyotes.

Nimbus Flat

If you want a quick escape from busy suburban life and into peaceful nature, go to the Nimbus Flat area. The park is just minutes from the Hazel Avenue exit. Near the parking area, you’ll find bathrooms, picnic tables, a boat launch area, and a lovely trail that runs along the lake.

Further down the parking lot, you’ll see the start of an easy trail where you can hike and see the lake views. The entire area is dog-friendly, so you can bring your pooch along for a hike.
