Three Killed in Ten-Vehicle Crash

On Saturday, November 14, 2020, at least three people tragically lost their lives due to a major auto accident that took place in Butte County. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision involved ten separate vehicles, five of which were reportedly big-rigs. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedents as Noah Anderson-Burdick, 18, of Yuba City, Kira Jumper, 19, of Redding, Camille Bent, 20, of Sierra Madre, Inderpal Rajput, 61, of Live Oak, and John Wegner of Redding.

A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Mr. Noah Anderson-Burdick and his family to help pay for funeral expenses, a celebration of life, a memorial, and a memorial plaque. A separate GoFundMe page has also been established for the family of Ms. Kira Jumper to help cover her final resting expenses.

Collision Information

The accident occurred on Highway 99 at around 12:30 a.m. between the small communities of Biggs and Gridley. CHP indicated that there was dense fog in the area at the time of the incident. So far, details about the events that led up to the collision have not yet been reported. However, police say that they will be reviewing dash-cam footage from the involved big-rigs in order to put together what took place.

Investigation of Crash in Butte County

The highway was closed from Ord Ranch Road to Biggs Highway for most of the day while collision response and preliminary investigations were underway. According to reports, a Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team from Sacramento was sent to the scene in order to conduct investigations.

However, Draper indicated that, with investigations like this one, learning what caused the car accident can take months. So far, the only factor that police have indicated was involved in the accident is low visibility due to heavy fog. Often, collisions like this one happen for a number of different reasons, many of which are outside of the control of any involved motorist. These can include weather as well as defective roads, poorly built car parts, and more.

Trucking Accidents and Quick Action

Big-rigs are typically owned by major companies that often operate hundreds of large commercial vehicles. Because their vehicles spend so much time on the road, these companies almost always anticipate actions and will take immediate action to avoid financial responsibility. By sending legal response teams to accident sites, trucking companies are often able to avoid paying families the compensation that they deserve.

Because trucking companies defend themselves so aggressively, it’s critical to reach out for help as soon as you are able. If your attorney can begin working on your case right away, they will be able to more effectively make sure your family obtains payment for medical bills, personal suffering, lost income, and other losses related to the accident.
