Car Crashed into Canal

A recent one-vehicle accident in Antioch resulted in a water rescue operation where emergency responders had to pull a car out of a canal. Thankfully, no fatalities occurred from the wreck. The driver of the vehicle escaped the water and initially fled the scene but was later discovered offsite by police officials. The unidentified male was brought in by authorities on suspicion of a DUI.

Antioch Canal Car Accident: What We Know

It was approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, when the Antioch Police Department and Contra Costa County Firefighters were dispatched to the accident site after receiving a report of the wreck. They were told that a car had crashed into a canal located off Cavallo Road. While emergency crews were responding, a witness made a report claiming that two people had gotten out of the car and left the area. The vehicle was abandoned in the water on its roof until firefighters arrived.

County firefighters were ready to perform a water rescue to see if anybody had been left inside the vehicle or the surrounding water. After searching through the affected portion of the canal, they confirmed there was no one left inside the submerged vehicle. Arrowhead Tow was on site to extract the car out of the canal.

Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

The driver was found later that evening at his apartment in the area. He was placed under arrest on suspicion of a DUI. Authorities confirmed later that two small children had been left home alone at the time of the accident. Police stated that based off the large skid mark on the road, the man had been driving at an excessively high speed when the car crashed through the fence and poles before ending upside down in the canal.
