71-Year-Old Patterson Man Killed in Collision

PATTERSON, CA – Sadly, an elderly Patterson resident lost his life Wednesday morning in a crash near Patterson, on Marshall Road, to the east of Alfalfa Road, according to the CHP.

The crash was called in at approximately 7:10 a.m. The collision was between a 1999 Ford pickup truck pulling a livestock trailer and a John Deere Gator utility vehicle.

According to the CHP’s prelim investigation, the Ford was going eastward about 45-50 mph on Marshall Road. The pickup was behind the Gator, which was driving at an as-yet unknown speed, when the Ford struck the back of the utility vehicle.

The impact caused the Gator’s 71-year-old driver to be ejected from the vehicle. Despite the response of emergency personnel, the man was pronounced deceased at the site.

The driver of the Ford, identified as Patterson resident, 48-year-old Michael Barcellos, stayed at the scene. Luckily, he was not injured. CHP investigators said drugs and alcohol don’t appear to have contributed to the collision.

The identity of the 71-year-old man has not been released while authorities work to notify his family. For those who knew and loved him, the loss is undoubtedly far more than a traffic incident—it is the sudden absence of someone who mattered deeply.

The investigation and road clearance took about two and a half hours, though a throughway remained open.

Driver Killed in Collision With Turlock Transit Bus

TURLOCK, CA — A driver was killed Thursday night, Sept. 24, after a series of collisions in Turlock, including a crash involving a Turlock Transit bus. Police say the first collision was a hit-and-run involving a white car.

At approximately 8:10 p.m., Turlock Police arrived at a reported hit-and-run on Lander Ave. close to Highway 99. According to the police report, there were no injuries in that crash. However, the 53-year-old driver of the car reportedly fled the accident site.

A short time later, officers were summoned to second crash on High Street near West Ave. with that the same white car, which rammed into a city transit bus. The force of that crash propelled the bus into a home, which, thankfully, wasn’t occupied.

However, the home and garage suffered significant damage. Also damaged was the home’s gas line, prompting PG&E crews to respond and stop the gas leak.

The driver reportedly died at the scene.

The bus driver was seriously injured, and was rushed to an area hospital. In an update Friday afternoon, authorities reported the driver was likely to make a complete recovery, which is good news. Fortunately, there were no passengers on the transit bus when the driver crashed into it.

The Turlock PD’s Major Accident Investigation Team remained at the site as investigators worked to determine exactly what happened. It has not yet been determined if alcohol or drugs were involved. Toxicology testing is pending.

For the families and people affected, this was far more than a traffic collision. One person lost their life, another was seriously injured, and an ordinary Thursday evening changed in a matter of moments.
