Los Banos Man Killed in Accident
An auto accident occurred outside of Merced County near Chowchilla on the evening of Monday, January 22, 2018. Sadly, the accident claimed the life of an elderly man.

What Happened?
A Los Banos man was driving a 2009 Honda sedan westbound along Highway 152 at approximately 7:25 pm. For unknown reasons, the Honda collided with the rear-end of a tractor-trailer. The impact of the collision caused the Honda to spin out of control and come to rest along the fast lane of the highway. A Dodge sedan was approaching the Honda and was unable to stop in time, resulting in a serious collision.
Nature of Injuries
Emergency personnel was called to the scene for needed medical assistance. Upon arrival, the driver and passenger of the Dodge sedan reported minor injuries but declined medical attention at the scene. The driver of the Honda sedan succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Identity of Victim
The driver of the Honda sedan was identified by officials as 92-year-old Joseph A. Cox of Los Banos.
What Caused the Accident?
Investigators have not yet decided a cause of the accident. Typically, a Traffic Collision Report is processed within two weeks from the date of the incident. Officials do not believe drugs or alcohol played as factors in the collision. We all know how discomforting a short summary traffic report is following a loved one’s passing in an auto accident.
