Fatal Crash Near Turlock

I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto Auto Accident Attorney. An 18-year-old man from Turlock lost his life in a head-on collision on Monday, August 1, 2016 along South Carpenter Road in the vicinity of Fulkerth Road, just west of Turlock.

What Happened?

The accident occurred around 5:55 a.m. According to a California Highway Patrol spokesman, the 18-year-old, behind the wheel of a 1998 Saturn, was traveling on Carpenter Road, passing cars at a high rate of speed.

Authorities believe the 18-year-old driver drove into the northbound lane trying to pass a vehicle causing him to lose control of his car. While passing there may have been another vehicle coming towards him. Sadly, the driver spun out of control and crashed head on with a 2008 Nissan going northbound.

The driver of the Nissan, Kenneth Bodiker, 47, was taken to Turlock’s Emanuel Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Bodiker did not have any passengers in his vehicle.

The passenger of the Saturn, Troy Preston, 22, of Modesto, was transported to Modesto’s Doctors Medical Center suffering from major injuries.

Driver Not Wearing Seat Belt

According to CHP Preston was wearing his seat belt, while the driver was not.

The collision is still under investigation. It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors.

CHP reported that one of the vehicles caught fire but apparently this was not the case. The accident kicked up a lot of dust, and the cars were smoking, which typically happens, but neither vehicle caught fire.

Witnesses from the crash, as a precaution, pulled victims from the smoking vehicles.
