Fatal Highway 99 Crash in Modesto Leads to Suspected DUI Arrest
A fatal highway 99 crash in Modesto leads to suspected DUI arrest after a driver was killed in a two-pickup collision on State Route 99 in Modesto on October 4, 2026. The crash resulted in the arrest of another driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The fatal Modesto crash occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Highway 99.
Two Pickup Trucks Collide on Highway 99
The collision involved a Chevrolet truck and a GMC vehicle were traveling along the highway.
Preliminary findings indicate that the Chevrolet moved into another lane before making contact with the GMC. Following the collision, the GMC rolled over.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
GMC Driver Killed in Modesto Rollover Crash
The driver of the GMC suffered fatal injuries. CHP reported that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
Chevrolet Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI
Neither the driver nor the passenger traveling in the Chevrolet was injured in the collision.
Following the crash, CHP officers arrested the Chevrolet driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Northbound Highway 99 Closed During Investigation
The fatal collision prompted authorities to close northbound Highway 99 while CHP officers investigated the scene.
The closure allowed emergency personnel and investigators to safely work along the highway and clear the damaged vehicles. The northbound lanes have since reopened.

CHP continues to investigate the events leading up to the collision, including the reported lane change and whether impairment contributed to the crash.
