Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash near Auburn Boulevard and Carriage Drive in Citrus Heights Under Investigation

A man has passed away following a fatal two-vehicle crash near Auburn Blvd and Carriage Drive in Citrus Heights on Tuesday night.

The Citrus Heights Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on August 11, 2026. Investigators state that one vehicle struck the rear of another at a relatively low rate of speed.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the driver unresponsive. First responders performed emergency care at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

Given the minor nature of the impact, police suspect a pre-existing medical emergency may have triggered the crash. Authorities added that impairment does not appear to be a factor.

Investigation Ongoing

Auburn Boulevard was temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene, but the roadway has since reopened.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Medical Emergencies Behind the Wheel Can Lead to Serious Collisions

Medical emergencies can occur unexpectedly and may significantly impair a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Although many traffic collisions result from factors such as speeding, distraction, or impairment, some crashes may be caused by sudden medical events that leave drivers unable to respond appropriately.

Investigators will continue examining the available evidence to determine exactly what led to this tragic incident.
