SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA — A driver lost their life after a rollover crash on Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County on Friday, July 31, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:49 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5 near Linne Road, just outside Tracy.
Investigators said a Ford Econoline van left the roadway for reasons that have not yet been determined before overturning several times. During the crash, the driver was ejected from the vehicle, which ultimately came to rest on its side in the center median.
When CHP officers arrived, they immediately began life-saving efforts. Despite those attempts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the driver was the vehicle’s only occupant.
Footage from local news crews showed one of the van’s tires had blown out, while debris from the crash was scattered across the median.
The investigation led to significant traffic delays on Interstate 5 between Interstate 580 and Interstate 205 as officers worked to examine the scene.
At this time, investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

CHP said a 39-year-old Jamestown man was traveling west in a silver 2014 Toyota Corolla, while a 64-year-old man from Twain Harte was traveling east in a Ford F-250.
For reasons that remain under investigation, authorities said the Ford truck crossed into the opposing lane, resulting in the head-on collision.
