Reported Accidents March 4
CERES, CA – A 33-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a roadway in Ceres, according to the Ceres Police Department.
The crash was reported shortly before 8:10 p.m. on March 1 along Mitchell Road at the entrance to the eastward Walmart parking lot, slightly north of the Service Road intersection. After receiving multiple 911 calls, officers arrived within minutes and found the man in the roadway with severe injuries.
Officers immediately began providing emergency medical care, remaining with him until personnel from the Modesto Fire Department and paramedics arrived to continue advanced treatment. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition. Due to the seriousness of the incident, the department’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) assumed responsibility for investigating the crash.
Preliminary information indicates the driver was heading north on Mitchell Road and had a green light at the entrance to the east Walmart parking lot when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street. Investigators reported that alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the collision.
North-moving lanes of Mitchell Road were closed for several hours as authorities carefully documented the scene, and traffic was redirected during that time. The investigation remains ongoing.
