At Least Two Injured in Head-On Big Rig Collision on State Route 20 Near Williams
At least two people were injured early Wednesday morning following a serious head-on big rig collision on State Route 20 near Williams in Colusa County, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. on January 26, 2026, east of State Route 16.
CHP reports indicate a box truck and a semi-truck collided head-on under circumstances that remain under investigation. One of the commercial vehicles involved was hauling approximately 15,000 pounds of lumber at the time of the crash.
One individual sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment, while a second person was treated for minor injuries. Both eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-20 were temporarily shut down as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
Driver Safety Tips When Sharing the Road With Big Rigs
Collisions involving commercial trucks often result in severe injuries due to the significant size and weight of these vehicles. Motorists should exercise extra caution when driving near big rigs by maintaining safe following distances, avoiding blind spots, and allowing additional space for trucks to stop or maneuver. Truck drivers and passenger vehicle drivers alike should remain alert, obey speed limits, and avoid distracted or fatigued driving. On rural highways such as SR-20, early morning hours can present additional risks due to reduced visibility and traffic conditions.

Why Hiring a Personal Injury Attorney Is Important After a Truck Accident
Truck accidents are often more complex than standard vehicle collisions, frequently involving multiple parties, including trucking companies, cargo handlers, and insurers. Injured victims may face extensive medical treatment, lost income, and long-term recovery challenges. A personal injury attorney can help investigate the cause of the crash, preserve critical evidence such as driver logs and maintenance records, and handle negotiations with powerful insurance carriers. Legal representation ensures that injured parties are not overwhelmed during recovery and are positioned to pursue full and fair compensation.
