Accidents December 9

MERCED COUNTY – A serious head-on collision took place south of Hilmar early Thursday morning, leaving two drivers injured. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 47-year-old Ceres man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after his Nissan Altima reportedly drifted into the oncoming lane on Highway 165, just north of Turner Road.

He collided into a Hyundai Genesis driven by a 33-year-old. Both drivers were traveling at approximately 55 mph when the crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. Emergency responders transported both individuals to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where they were treated for injuries ranging from minor to moderate. It was noted that the allegedly-impaired Altima driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of how dangerous impaired driving can be—not only for the driver but for everyone on the road.
