Fatal Big Rig Crash on I-80 Near Hirschdale Road near Truckee in California

A fatal big rig crash on I-80 near Hirschdale Road near Truckee occurred early Sunday morning, November 16, 2025, on westbound Interstate 80 east of Hirschdale Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP reported that around 1:20 a.m., the semi-truck drifted onto the right shoulder and collided with the guardrail. The vehicle then partially went down a dirt embankment, causing the cab to overturn onto its roof. The truck partially blocked lanes while suspended on the embankment.

Tragically, the 45-year-old driver of the big rig died at the scene. CHP is investigating the crash to determine contributing factors, including whether driver fatigue, mechanical failure, or other issues played a role.
