Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run on Hwy 99 Crash Shuts Down Highway in South Sacramento
A fatal pedestrian hit-and-run on Hwy 99 occured early Friday morning, June 27, 2025, on southbound Highway 99 in South Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. to the scene near Fruitridge Road, where first responders confirmed that the pedestrian had died at the scene.

Safety Reminder: Stay Alert and Visible on Highways
Walking along or across highways is extremely dangerous, especially during low-visibility hours. Pedestrians should avoid entering high-speed roadways whenever possible. If walking near traffic is unavoidable, use sidewalks, wear reflective clothing, and stay alert at all times. Drivers must also remain vigilant, particularly during early morning hours when visibility and attentiveness can be reduced.
Justice for Victims of Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accidents
Pedestrian accidents often leave behind not only physical devastation but also emotional trauma and financial hardship. In hit-and-run cases, families face the added pain of unanswered questions and unaccountable parties. Although criminal charges may eventually be filed against the responsible driver, victims and their families also have the right to pursue civil compensation for damages.
This may include costs related to emergency services, funeral expenses, emotional distress, loss of financial support, and more. Sadly, insurance companies often make early offers that do not reflect the true scope of these losses, especially when liability is unclear or still under investigation.
Why Legal Representation Is Essential in Hit-and-Run Cases
A knowledgeable personal injury attorney can help uncover critical evidence—such as traffic camera footage, witness statements, or accident reconstructions—that may identify the responsible party. Even if the driver is never located, your attorney can pursue other avenues of compensation, such as uninsured motorist coverage, to support your recovery or your family’s future.
An experienced legal team can also handle complex insurance negotiations and advocate for a settlement or verdict that genuinely reflects the full impact of your loss—now and moving forward.
