In the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025, a solo vehicle accident ended as a vehicle plunges into Whiskeytown Lake in Shasta County. The crash took place around 5:15 a.m. when the driver lost control near a tight curve approaching the Whiskeytown Dam in Shasta County.

Two Young Occupants and Two Dogs Involved

Cal Fire reported that the vehicle was carrying two passengers and two dogs at the time of the crash. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the 19-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger sustained only minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for evaluation.

Fire Personnel Rescue One Dog from Submerged Vehicle

Of the two dogs involved in the crash, Cal Fire personnel successfully recovered one and brought it safely to shore. No information was provided regarding the second dog.

CHP Cites Speed as Common Factor in Local Collisions

A CHP officer at the scene emphasized that excessive speed is a contributing factor in many of the area’s traffic accidents. He reminded drivers to obey posted speed limits, especially on winding county roads, stating, “That’s why we have speed limits… to make sure everybody is getting to their locations safely.”
